Hanger #1:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” – John 3:16-18 (Translation based on ESV)

1. As referred to in this scripture verse, where are the condemned heading?

  • The condemned are sent to Hell.

  • Those who do not believe in God and/or His teachings/ commandments are condemned to face eternity in hell.

  • Depending on individual perspective, hell is either seen as a physical place that is consumed in flames, or simply the separation of the soul from the Lord for an eternity.

2. What are the consequences of a failure to believe in the Trinity, as well as the rewards for believing in the Trinity?

  • The belief of the Trinity is the acknowledgement and acceptance in God as the father, the Son, and the holy spirit. This includes the belief in Christ as the Lord God, our Savior.

  • The consequence for rejecting the Trinity is condemnation to hell, which is the separation from God for eternity.

  • The reward for accepting God as the Trinity is union with Him in heaven for an eternity.

  • Believing in the Trinity usually means that one has lived their life in the image of Christ in receive salvation.

  • Heaven is also characterized as something physical like eating at the Lord's table.

  • In hell, the loss of sight in God is physical.

  • It is a statement that the love of God gives Grace and opportunity until your death, which then becomes your choice.

Hanger #2

"He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, He will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury." - Romans 2:6-8

1. Define the appropriate terms that have a direct correlation to the passage. (3 marks).

  • The passage refers to a place of "eternal life", known in Christianity as Heaven or the "Kingdom of Heaven", an alternative existence or state of being.

  • This is the afterlife where God is present, and is often known as His dwelling place where Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father.

  • Those who "do not obey the truth" will be subject to the wrath and fury of Hell, the afterlife where God himself is not present. It is eternal and inescapable.

  • One's obedience and desire to love God in all His glory and honor determines one's placement in the afterlife. However, God's Grace (His love and mercy on His people and the "free gift" of divine favor) allows Him to have mercy on sinners if they repent and show remorse for their wrong-doings.

  • "Seeking glory and honor"= reward in heaven

  • "He" refers to God.

2. State the significance and describe the “works” must one do in order to receive “eternal life” with Him. (7 marks)

  • In order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, one must practice daily faith and practice "well-doing" by becoming selfless, compassionate and a servant of God.

  • One must read the Holy Scripture (the Bible) and learn from the unique lessons in which God has communicated through the text.

  • One might relate to the text through the reading of a Parable, the "everyday" stories of Jesus and His people in the Bible that relay a greater and more powerful message.

  • However, those who do not "obey the truth" but instead "obey righteousness" will be subject to God's "wrath and fury" and be condemned to Hell.

  • Those who deny God's light and instead commit acts of sin such as murder, gluttony, or denial of God himself may be subject to judgment and will not enter the kingdom of heaven without God's grace.

  • Participate in your sacraments according to your denomination
