Where are we going?

  • For the faithful, to eternal janna (gardens and water springs; in total peace and security; feelings of bitterness will be gone; entering into happiness), by obedience/submission to God’s will

  • By disobedience to God’s will (shirk), to Jahannam (hell), which is reserved for those whom God has decided to punish for a time for committing grave sins and not repenting.

 

Terms associated with “Where are we going?”:

  • Akhira- (afterlife); real success or real failure is success or failure in Akhira, in which Allah is the sole judge; to reach Akhira; attitudes toward Akhira depend solely on the might and vitality of one’s Iman; It is normal for the achievement of Akhira to be difficult

 

  • Muhammad "Seal of the Prophets" (Razul)- preaches about the importance of reaching Janna, in order to be fulfilled, in the Qur’an.

 

  • Janna- Quote of Significance: "(It will be said to the believers of Islamic Monotheism): 'My slaves! No fear shall be on you this Day, nor shall you grieve. (You) who believed in Our ayat (proofs, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were Muslims (i.e., who submit totally to Allah's Will, and believe in the Oneness of Allah). Enter Jannah, you and your wives, in happiness.' Trays of gold and cups will be passed round them; (there will be) therein all that inner-selves could desire, and all that eyes could delight in and you will abide therein forever. This is the Jannah which you have been made to inherit because of your deeds which you used to do (in the life of the world). Therein for you will be fruits in plenty, of which you will eat (as you desire)." [Al-Qur'an 43:68-73]- Yawm Al- Din 

    • Achieved through the surrender to Allah’s will

      i. ​this includes completing the 5 pillars

 

  • Jahannam- an unimaginably long pit; long walls; seven gates for different types of sinners; fire burned so long thee that the pits became pitch black and dark; punishments are abundant; pillars of fire; will remain alive through all punishments; given boiling water to drink so that it cuts their insides to pieces

    • Significance: Described so vividly to discourage anyone from not striving to do their best in this life (Jihad

    • Jahannam has 7 doors, signifying different levels of hell/fiery torment for different people depending on their sin

      i. all levels include some sort of intense pain: fire, boiling, etc…

 

Other Important Notes: 

  • Yawm al-din/Yawmuddin is a Day of Judgment that determines if you will be placed in Janna or Jahannam

  • There is no real form of redemption for straying from the righteous path but it is the believer’s duty to get back on that path as soon as possible in order to reach Paradise.
